France on the World Stage

None of this is really about us. We, the Kennedy family, are included in but a few chapters of God’s Great Story. We hope as you read the stories of our journey as disciples of Jesus, that you too are inspired to consider how God is writing your life into His Story.

July 2024

This summer France is under the world’s spotlight. So much is happening here, and as we look ahead to the next several weeks, we wanted to send out this newsletter as a call to pray with us for France.

“…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith… Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

France in the News:

UEFA Euro 2024

In the last few weeks Les Bleus (team France) played into the semi-finals, with greats like Kylian Mbappé inspiring the hearts of all aspiring footballers, including Brennan.

Crazy fact we stumbled upon in writing this newsletter: player Olivier Giroud, cited as one of the top 10 best French football players of all time AND noted as the #1 top goal scorer in the history of the French team, is a Christian. What?!? If you’re curious, check out a video of Olivier promoting a recent event here in France:

The Tour de France

With it’s inception in 1903, this year marks the 111th tour, and racers are presently nearby in the French Alps. Cycling culture is huge here in the Savoie, and we have seen how this sport is part of the French identity.

Musilac 2024

One of the most celebrated music festival in the region, Musilac happened right here in Aix-les-Bains from July 10-13. More than 100,000 people attended the event, more than tripling the usual population of this small city. This year’s line up featured international artists like Lenny Kravitz, Macklemore, and Yungblud, along with French artists like Louise Attaque and Pomme.

Although we didn’t attend in person, for 4 days and nights we could hear the music from our balcony.

La Fête Nationale Française

July 14 marked France’s national holiday, commonly named in English as Bastille Day. On this day, the whole contry came together to commemorate the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 and the unity of the French people at the Fête de la Federation on 14 July 1790. As a family we took part in the festivities, beginning with a military ceremony in the centre of town, and ending at a music festival and fire show.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Obviously the biggest event of the year here in France, from July 26 – August 11, 2024, the whole world will gather in Paris to celebrate sport and athleticism. Represented by 206 nations, 10,000+ athletes, and millions of spectators, France will play host to the world.

Following the Olympic Games of course, the Paralympic Games will be celebrated in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

Exciting days are ahead!

With the whole world looking to France this summer, we increasingly feel a call to pray for this nation.

Would you join us in praying for France?

Pray for God to bless the country and people of France. Pray He would pour out His spirit of light over the areas of darkness. Pray that God’s grace and love would rest upon this great nation, as a leader and influence in the world.
Pray for the French government as the world comes to it’s doorstep. Pray for security and safety for the French hosts and their global visitors, particularly as terrorist attacks have haunted past events in France.
Pray for God’s church in France, pray for believers in this country to take up the call to live as Jesus did, to follow the mission He started, to share hope for a hurting world.

Faith and Sport

Go+ France is a ministry that unites sport with faith. With the recent and upcoming events in France, now more than ever there is a great need to pray for God to move amongst us in this domain.
