What would you miss?

November 6, 2025

Hello Friends!

These past 2 weeks we’ve been blessed by a visit from Joel’s parents.  It has been great to see them in person and we have enjoyed sharing with them all the things we love about our little corner of France.

Inevitably, however, when we have visitors from Canada, it brings to mind things we miss from “back home”.  In fact, we have a running “please bring with you” list of items we request visitors bring for us whenever we have this chance to “import” a few Canadian goods.

For us, our “please bring with you” list includes:

  • Maple syrup, the dark stuff from Québec!
  • Cinnamon Gum
  • Montreal Steak Spice
  • Super Nibs
  • Eatmore bars
  • Packages of turkey gravy
  • Canned pumpkin
  • Taco seasoning
  • Peppermint Candy Canes (they only come in fruit flavours!)
  • Big bottles of chewable vitamin C, acetaminophen and ibuprofen… they’re expensive here!
  • Tuck Tape

Of course there are many things we miss from Canada that don’t fit in our visitor’s suitcases…

We miss our friends and families.

Our church community.

Our old neighbours and neighbourhood.

A white Christmas.

Camping in the wilderness

A Tim’s Double Double

Cabane à Sucre (if you don’t know what this is, look it up!)

What would you miss?

I am sure every culture on the planet experiences this phenomenon of missing familiar things “from home” if you have moved to live somewhere else.  And while we are certainly not suffering here in France, we will probably always have a list of things we miss.  Things that when we get to see them or have them again, we feel this lovely nostalgia, this satisfying pleasure in something that reminds us of the “comforts of home”.

So I’m curious… if one day God calls you to leave your home country to live somewhere else in the world, what would you miss?

Please share!

Much love,

Becky & the Kennedy Family
